A Family Affair

The Obamas’ spent some quality time together over the long Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The Obamas’ volunteered on Wednesday at Martha’s Table, a local D.C. non-profit for underserved individuals.

On Friday afternoon, First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters, Malia and Sasha Obama, welcomed the official Christmas tree to the White House.

And on Saturday afternoon, the entire family watched as Oregon State took on Howard University in basketball. First Lady Michelle Obama’s brother is the head coach of Oregon State’s team.

All in all, it looks like the Obamas’ had a great weekend, not including President Obama having to get stiches in his lower lip. Ouch. Happy Thanksgiving!

California's New Attorney General

According to the LA Times, Steve Cooley has conceded to Kamala Harris for California Attorney General. After more than three weeks of tallying votes in the state, Harris pulled ahead beating Cooley by about 50,000 votes to become California's top lawyer.

Harris will be the first woman African America attorney general in California and the first Indian-American attorney general in the United States. She is definitely a political girl in my book!

Farewell Madam Speaker....

“What’s really important is, for women in politics and government, to understand the gratitude we have to those who went before and the responsibility to those who come after. I would want women to know that whatever the struggle, it was worth it, and whatever the risk, it was worth it.”
- Nancy Pelosi stated in an interview today with Diane Sawyer, her first after the 2010 midterm elections

Review: Election Night

While last night was long and hard for some women candidates, a couple of key politicalgirls went on to win election. Here is a recap of some of my favorites.

Barbara Boxer captured re-election after a long and hard fight in California against Republican candidate Carly Fiorina.
