A couple of former presidents and first ladies gathered last night at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Presidents Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, George. H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush were joined by their wives (except Secretary of State Hillary Clinton), Rosalynn Carter, Barbara Bush, and Laura Bush for the "All Together Now - A Celebration of Service" performance in honor of former President George H. W. Bush.

First lady Michelle Obama welcomed Mexican first lady Margarita Zavala back to Washington, DC with a visit to Equinox for lunch and then they ladies traveled to Oyster-Adams Bilingual Elementary School.  The first ladies read the Cat in the Hat to the school children as part of Read Across America.

First Lady Michelle Obama and France's First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy will do lunch next week, according to the New York Times. I love both of them and really hope that the White House will release photos of the luncheon!

Mrs. Sarkozy’s husband, Nicolas, is planning to visit with President Obama, and their wives, who have made their share of headlines together, will eat privately, according to the official, who insisted on remaining anonymous. Careful Michelle-Carla observers will remember that their first meeting, in Strasbourg, France, in 2009, turned into a fashion face-off of sorts — at least for reporters, who were eager to deconstruct the meaning of each outfit in an attempt to figure out which first lady had smacked down the other.

On the Bookshelf: Jackie Kennedy

Two new books about Jackie Kennedy have recently hit the bookshelf. While there have been countless books written about the former first lady, these two concentrate specifically about her life as an editor. Many people do not know that after the death of her second husband Aristotle Onassis, she wanted a new career.  "Jackie as Editor" and "Reading Jackie" both explore her 19 year career editing books.
