Oldie but goodie! Vice President Joe Biden and wife Jill Biden hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for wounded warriors at their home at the Naval Observatory. Seated from left are, Marine Cpl. The dedication ceremony of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial was held today in Washington, DC. The memorial located in West Potomac Park, was rescheduled today after it was delayed by the hurricane that hit the DC area on August 28. Leaders from around the nation gathered this morning to pay tribute to the fallen civil rights leader including President Obama (who spoke at length), First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joesph Biden, Dr. Jill Biden, U.S. Secretary of Interior Ken Salazar, civil rights leaders Andrew Young, Joesph Lowery, Rev. Jessie Jackson, Jr., and his children Martin Luther King, 3rd and Berince King.

Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was in Washington, DC today to celebrate the retirement of her husband, Captain Mark Kelly. Capt. Kelly has been in the military for twenty five years, including stints an astronaut and a Navy captain. On hand at today's ceremony was Vice President Joe Biden and Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

So good to see Rep. Giffords out and about - and smiling!

Spotted: Joe Biden, along with granddaugther, Naomi arriving in China

Vice President Joe Biden and his granddaughter, Naomi Biden just arrived in Beijing, China. The vice president is in the country for a five-day visit about the economy and will later visit Mongolia and Japan. He was accompanied by his 15 year old granddaughter, Naomi, who is the daughter of his son, Hunter Biden. Earlier this year, another of Biden's granddaugthers, Finnegan traveled with him to Russia.

Speaking of Dr. Biden, I wonder where she is? Perhaps, getting ready for a new school year. 

Jill Biden travels to Africa to visit with Somali famine refugees

Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, traveled to eastern Kenya over the weekend to visit the world largest refugee camp, Dadaab, located near the Somali border. In just the last three months, more than 29,000 Somali children under the age of 5 have died from the effects of the famine. Dr. Biden represents the highest official to visit the area where more than 12 million people are in need of food and water.

A "Green Affair" at the White House as they celebrate St. Patrick's Day

The Obamas celebrated St. Patrick's Day with their annual "green" reception at the White House complete, with shamrocks and a green white fountain out front. Some of those attending the gathering include Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny and his wife Fionnuala Kenny, as well as Vice President Joe Biden. 

Who is Jill Biden's Press Secretary? Courtney O'Donnell that's who.

                                         

I ran across this excellent article the other day on Courtney O'Donnell, Press Secretary to Jill Biden. Ms. O' Donnell was profiled in RedBook Magazine in 2009 about her abilities to juggle all her responsibilities with the second lady plus manage the duties of a being a new mother and wife. 

"When I was offered this job, we had a very large family huddle," Courtney recalls. "I always wanted to work at the White House and knew this was something I couldn't pass up. We said to our families: 'We can only do this if you support it too.' Luckily, they were thrilled.... And it helps that her boss and office have a family-first attitude; in fact, there are times when Dr. Biden might turn down a media request because she wants to attend Grandparents' Day at her granddaughter's school.

Ms. O'Donnell is no stranger to political women. She served as Press Secretary to Elizabeth Edwards during her husband's campaign for president in 2004 and also worked at the William Clinton Foundation before she started at the White House.

Jill Biden continued her tour of Russia yesterday with Vice President Joe Biden and their granddaughter Finnegan. On day 3, she visited a Federal research center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology, at the Kulakov Maternal Health Clinic in Moscow, Russia.
