Michele Bachmann's Controversial Newsweek Cover

Presidential candidate Michele Bachmann is on the current cover of Newsweek and many of her fans are upset with the photo. They say that Newsweek purposely picked a wide-eyed photo of Bachmann to make her look crazy even though they had a variety of shots to choose from.

Hmmm, what do you guys think? Should they have gone with a different photo?

Will she run? Sarah Palin covers Newsweek Magazine

In an interview out this week in Newsweek, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin declares she could win president in 2012..... if she decides to run.

Your favorite first lady was featured in Newsweek this week. The profile previewed her upcoming involvement in the 2012 presidential campaign and her two signatures - Lets Move and Joining Forces.

The most recognizable woman in the world routinely ducks reporters to have what she calls a “normal” life. Hiding beneath a baseball cap, the first lady of the United States has picked through sale racks in the frenetic Tysons Corner, Va., mall with girlfriends, bought supplies for her dog at Petco using her own credit card, and dined at some of D.C.’s hippest eateries largely unrecognized. So secretive are her outings that when Washington Capitals hockey superstar Alex Ovechkin tweeted a photo in April with his arm around her at a busy Washington restaurant, media organizations were convinced it was a fake. Michelle Obama laid down her markers quickly and in a way that has set Washington back on its heels. The White House was not going to imprison her, the media were not going to own her, and she would not be driven by external expectations. She was supposed to be a different kind of first lady—an Ivy League–educated, fashion-trendsetting professional who blew up the conventions of the job. No one could have imagined back in the heady days following the election that she’d declare that she would work only two or three days a week, choose a couple of politically comfortable issues, and stay out of the glare of the political spotlight. The result has been a low-key tenure that some have found to be disappointingly conventional.

Hillary Clinton on the cover of the redesigned Newsweek

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is gracing the cover of the redesigned Newsweek. The cover was revealed this morning by new editor, Tina Brown on "This Week with Christiane Amanpour." The new issue, which will be available on newsstands tomorrow, also includes "150 women who shake the world" in a nod to Women's History Month. What do you think of the cover? Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand featured in Newsweek

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is featured in Newsweek this week in story called "Senator Surprise." While we have always kept our eye on the junior senator, it looks like others are starting to notice. The article focuses on her two big legislative wins in the lame duck session as well as how she has stood by her friend Rep. Gabrielle Giffords with the recent tragedy in Tucson.

The junior senator from New York has just hung up with Mark Kelly, husband of Gabrielle Giffords, the House member shot in the head in Tucson. Gillibrand is quite close to Giffords and was among the handful of lawmakers to accompany President Obama to the memorial service for victims of the shooting. She was at her friend’s bedside when the wounded congresswoman opened her eyes for the first time. Since then, at Kelly’s behest, Gillibrand has been making the media rounds to help humanize “Gabby” and put a personal face on the tragedy. Meet the Press, Good Morning America, Face the Nation, The View—it’s the kind of exposure an ambitious lawmaker would ordinarily revel in. But these are not ordinary circumstances, and Gillibrand looks exhausted and emotionally wrung out. Her husband, Jonathan, she says, is having an especially rough time. Asked about the shooting, he noted simply, “I worry about her every day, and I always have.”

Freshman Congressman Frederica Wilson likes her hats

How did I miss this? Washington Post's Robin Givan (or more accurately, Newsweek's new hire) profiled freshman congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D-FL) in early December. The representative-elect is known in her home state for wearing embellished and decorative hats and often wore them on the Florida Senate floor. However, when she come to Washington next month she will learn that things are a little different since the House floor bans hats.

Robin Givhan leaves the Washington Post

The New York Times is reporting that Robin Givhan, the famed writer of the Washington Post and 2006 Pulitzer Prize winner is leaving the newspaper to join the revamped Newsweek as a special correspondent for style and culture. Givhan was with the Post for 15 years and often covered the First Lady, including writing a scathing piece on her when she wore shorts last year on a trip to the Grand Canyon. She also penned a book about the First Lady entitled "Michelle: Her First Year as First Lady" that was released earlier this year.
