Sandra Lee, the popular Food Network star and now girlfriend of New York's governor is featured in this month's Vogue. Among the photos of the picturesque chef, the profile digs deeper behind the lady that has made "Semi-Homemade" her signature. In the article, she reveals that she spent her childhood years in an abusive household and while attending Le Cordon Bleu cooking school in Canada she found her love for gourmet food. She also divulges on how she met Cumo and whether marriage plans are in her future.
Lee and Cuomo met five years ago at a party in the Hamptons, introduced by political adviser Alexandra Stanton. Cuomo was recovering from a disastrous first run for governor and a bruising and very public divorce from Kerry Kennedy, a daughter of R.F.K. who, in the New York Post’s inimitable words, “cheated on him with a polo-playing dandy.” For a man who had both been born and married into political families where failure was not an option, he was not in a good place—which must have made his obviously happy relationship with Lee and his victory this past November all the sweeter. At the mention of Cuomo, Lee’s face lights up. “I’ve got a good one,” she says. “He’s loyal and dedicated.” When I touch briefly on the unfortunate shenanigans of a certain previous New York governor, she laughs. “Oh, no, I don’t have to worry about that; I can relax.” And marriage? “Well, I did it once”—in her 30s she married a real estate mogul in Los Angeles—“and as I was walking up the aisle I remember thinking, It’s not too late to run.” But of course it was, and five years later they divorced. “Right now I’m happy being a girlfriend, but someday Andrew and I will get there. When his kids say we need to, we will.” - Vogue Magazine
