Kathy Hochul is the new Congresswoman representing New York's 26th District located in upstate New York. In the much talked about race, Mrs. Hochul handed a stunning defeat to Republican candidate Jane Corwin. The seat vacated by Rep. Chris Lee had been a Republican district for more than 40 years.

EDUCATION Attended Syracuse University as an undergraduate; received law degree from Catholic University in Washington.
FAMILY Married to William J. Hochul Jr., the United States attorney for the Western District of New York since 1984. President Obama nominated Mr. Hochul in 2009, and he won Senate confirmation last year. They have two children: William III, a first-year law student at the University of Notre Dame, and Caitlin, who this month graduated from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
POLITICAL CAREER Started as a legislative aide and counsel to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York; has served as Erie County clerk since 2007; previously served as first deputy county clerk and a member of the Hamburg Town Board.
