Tragedy strikes in Arizona: Rep. Gabrielle Giffords shot

Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-AR) was shot this morning, along with 18 others, 6 of whom have passed away. Rep. Giffords was in her home district of Tuscon, Arizona where she had organized a meet and greet with her constituents called, "Congress on Your Corner" when the shooting occurred.

Ms. Giffords is currently in critical condition at the University Medical Center in Tucson where doctors are "optimistic" that she will pull through. The charismatic congressman was elected in 2006 and was starting her third term. She is the only member of the U.S. Congress whose spouse, astronaut Mark E. Kelly, is an active duty member of the U.S. military.

We’re going to get to the bottom of this, and we’re going to get through this,” stated President Obama.

“I wanted to be here.“I think it’s important. Reflecting on the Constitution in a bipartisan way is a good way to start the year, " stated Rep. Giffords after reading the Constitution early this year.
