Newly elected Representative Janice Hahn was sworn in yesterday at the Capitol. Rep. Hahn will represent California's 36th Congressional District which is located in the southern part of the state. She won in a special election last week to replace Jane Harman, who retired from Congress to become the director of the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, DC. Rep. Hahn is joined above at her swearing in ceremony by her daughter, Katy, and her two grandchildren, Josiah and Brooklyn.

Video: Rep. Jane Harman says goodbye to Congress

Friday was the last official day for Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA). A couple of weeks ago, the congresswoman announced that she would be leaving her post to head up the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. During her farewell address, Ms. Harman talked about her love the district that she had been serving for over 16 years and her excitment for her new opportunity.

But nothing, and I mean nothing, will ever replace the two decades-long journey I have just completed as I sought and won a seat in Congress. - Jane Harman

Rep. Jane Harman to resign from Congress

Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) will resign from Congress this week, according to the Washington Post. Rep. Harman, who represents California's 36th district, will become the new director of the Woodrow Wilson Center.

California Rep. Jane Harman (D) will resign from Congress, according to two senior Democratic leadership aides, a surprise announcement that will set off a special election in her 36th district. NBC's Andrea Mitchell, who broke the news of Harman's resignation, has reported that the California Congresswoman will take over as director of the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington. That job is currently held by former Indiana Rep. Lee Hamilton (D). Harman, 65 , has held the southern California 36th district since 2000 when she upended then Rep. Steve Kuykendall (R). She also ran unsuccessfully for governor in 1998, losing a primary to then Lt. Gov. Gray Davis. Her husband, Sidney, is the owner of Newsweek magazine

Good luck Rep. Harman! Let's hope that the 36th district will elect another woman to represent them.
